Catherine Chamberlin began studying the violin at the age of 5. Studying with Peter Hanson (leader of the Eroica Quartet) and Lesley Hatfield (leader of BBC National Orchestra of Wales), she graduated with first class honours from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in 2011 and returned to study for a Masters of Music Performance, which she completed with distinction in 2013. Catherine is a freelance player and performs regularly with Welsh National Opera and the BBC National Orchestra of Wales. Other appearances include Sinfonia Cymru, Welsh Chamber Players, British Sinfonietta, Southern Sinfonia and The Little Orchestra. Alongside these orchestras, Catherine has broadcast live on BBC Radio 3, Classic FM and appeared on BBC3 as well as the Welsh television channel S4C. Recent highlights include performances with Bryn Terfel, Aled Jones, Catrin Finch, Julian Lloyd-Webber, Wynne Evans, John Owen Jones, Rhydian and Karl Jenkins.
In 2016, Catherine performed the iconic Partita No. 2 in D minor by J. S. Bach in a series of recitals covering the south-west of England and Wales, most notably at St David’s Hall in Cardiff. She also performed Mozart Violin Concerto No. 5 in A major with the Highfields Orchestra, Cardiff, under conductor Huw Gareth Williams. As a Musicare artist, she also regularly performs to those with dementia and Alzheimers in care homes.
